Tolani Akintunde hit the Nigerian screens as a star on the popular television series, Everyday People. Currently residing in London, she told Saturday Beats in a chat via Blackberry Messenger that she would not want to earn a living as an actress.
While she starred in that soap opera, Tolani had a shop in Ikeja, Lagos. But she dumped everything and relocated to London.
The mother of one stated that she would rather face her career in journalism.
“I don’t live in Nigeria anymore and even if l do, l wouldn’t want to earn a living as an actress. I’m a professional journalist. Acting was just something that came my way. It’s not in my career plan. At the moment, I do freelance journalism as well as business.” she said.
Tolani, still looking charming in spite of being a mother, says she shuttles between London and Nigeria, leaving her behind toddler behind in UK.
She, however, told Saturday Beats that on such trips, she makes arrangement for her daughter.
She said, “I started when the baby was six months old. So it’s not new to her. It has given her a spirit of independence. She is very smart and can do things most of her peers can’t do. She misses me but we do talk all the time.
“She knows I’ve to work. She lives with me. My friends are like family so she stays with family anytime I’m not around.”
She confirmed that she and her child’s father are no longer together but that they both got what they wanted in the relationship before things went sour.
“Her dad and l are not together. It wasn’t something that has details. We both got what we wanted,” she said.
Reacting on comments by fans that she is no more as beautiful as she used to be, she said, “I suppose they have the fountain of youth then. Everyday People was 12 years ago. What were they expecting? Of course, I can’t be like l used to be. Beauty anyway is in the eyes of the beholder.”
Currently alone, the 30-something year-old single mother stated that she is not searching for a man. She, however, acknowledged that she does get lonely sometimes.
“Definitely not searching. Single yet not available. Lonely? Sometimes but that isn’t an issue. You find ways to amuse yourself.”
