Samuel Eto’ohas laughed off the leaked remarks from Chelsea manager José Mourinho questioning his age, joking that if he can manage a hat-trick against Manchester United “at 37” he must have plenty of years left in the tank.

On Wednesday evening, the Blues secured a 1-1 draw in their Champions League last-16 first leg with Galatasaray. The buildup to the match was dominated by comments made in private by the Portuguese concerning his strikers, in particular Eto’o.

Canal Plus broadcast video of Mourinho telling a businessman at a recent sponsor’s event: “The problem with Chelsea is I lack a striker. Eto’o is 32 years old, maybe 35, who knows?”

Mourinho was apoplectic about the remarks being broadcast and said his relationship with Eto’o had not been affected – something the Cameroon forward agrees with after he made light of the comments.

“I am Samuel Eto’o, what can I say?” he told Sky Sports News after the Galatasaray match. “If at 36 and 37 I can score three goals at Manchester United it means that I still have some juice and I can even score until I am 50.

“But I really don’t care, what is really important to me is to give my maximum to the team, to help them to win some titles.”

Eto’o came on as a 68th-minute substitute in Turkey for Fernando Torres, whose goal early in the clash was the ideal response to Mourinho’s leaked remarks.

Joseph Yobo and Adaeze were joined in holy matrimony on December 31, 2009, at the Evangelical Bible Outreach Ministries International, Prayer City, Jos, Plateau State. The couple celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary in December 2013. Presently, they are blessed with a baby boy.

However Football analyst, Dudu Orumen had dropped a bombshell claiming Joseph Yobo has no business in the present Super Eagles squad on the basis that he (Yobo) is 40 and not 33 as he claimed. This is coming at a time the former Everton FC of England defender got a recall to the Nigerian national senior team after almost a year of being left out of the team by coach Stephen Keshi.

His official date of birth as listed online is September 6, 1980, and his place of birth is Kano. The footballer left Fenerbache of Turkey in January after seeing few playing times to join Norwich City FC of England on loan all in an attempt to keep fit and make the final squad of Nigeria’s Super Eagles for the World Cup in Brazil in June 2014.

According to Mr. Aloba, “I have tried reaching him on that issue but I couldn’t. I am not sure he would want to be bothered about age controversy because presently he is concentrating on his career. He just joined Norwich City in England and getting playing time is his priority now and not distraction.”

Queen Elizabeth, Lugard, Zik, 97 others bag Nigeria’s Centenary awards

British monarch and Head of the Commonwealth, Queen Elizabeth II, is to be conferred with an award on Friday, February 28, by President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to mark Nigeria’s centenary.

On the same day too, Sir Fredrick Lugard, who effected the amalgamation of the Northern and Southern Protectorates of the British Crown to form a new colonial territory and his consort, Dame Flora Louise Shaw, who named the territory ‘Nigeria’ would both receive posthumous awards.

At the glittering ceremony, President Jonathan would similarly present awards in 13 other categories to 97 distinguished personalities, either alive or dead, who eminently symbolize the tapestry of Nigeria’s first centenary.

In a statement, the Presidential Committee on Nigeria’s Centenary Celebrations said the award ceremony scheduled to hold at the Banquet Hall, State House, Abuja, would kick off at 7.00pm.  A full list of the award recipients is reproduced below.

World Leaders Arrive In Abuja For Nigeria’s Centenary

More than 12 Heads of State arrived at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Wednesday ahead of Thursday’s (today) centenary, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

The visiting Heads of State were received at the airport by some members of the Federal Executive Council.

Those that were received at the airport include Presidents Hifikepunye Pohamba of Namibi; Paul Kagame of Rwanda; Yahya Jammeh of Gambia and Prosper Bazombaza of Burundi.

President Helen Sirleaf of Liberia and the former Secretary-General of Organisation for African Union, Dr. Salim Ahmed Salim, who led the Tanzanian delegation also arrived in Abuja on Wednesday for the celebration.

Also arrived in Abuja were the President of Mauritania, Mohammed Ould Abdel Aziz; Ethiopian President, Mr. Hailemarian Desalegh; and the European Union President, Mr. Jose Manuel Barroso.

The Zambian Minister of Defence, Mr. Edgar Lungu, will represent the Zambian President, Micheal Saata. Israel is also being represented by its Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Yair Shamir.

An official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who did not want to be mentioned, told NAN that 42 Heads of State were being expected to attend the celebration.

Meanwhile, United States President Barack Obama has designated State Counsellor Thomas Shannon as the leader of a presidential delegation to the centenary in Abuja.

A statement in Abuja on Wednesday by the State Department said Shannon would meet with government officials and participate in high-level activities with other world leaders during the centenary.

The US official, who is expected to deliver a message from Obama to Nigeria, would also travel to Lagos for discussions on a range of issues of mutual interest and interact with Nigerian youths.

Also, President of the Swiss Confederation, Didier Burkhalter, has sent a letter of congratulations to President Goodluck Jonathan on the nation’s centenary.

Burkhalter would be represented at the celebrations by the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Hans-Rudolf Hodel.

“May the ties of confidence and friendship which so happily exist between our two countries continue to flourish in the coming centenary,’’ the Swiss president wrote.

The major highlight of the week-long activities includes an international conference on peace and security in Africa on Thursday to be attended by several world leaders.

The British colonial authorities had on January 1, 1914 amalgamated what were then the separate protectorates of Southern Nigeria and Northern Nigeria.

The amalgamation gave birth to the single geo-political entity known as Nigeria.

The celebrations will also feature the conferment of honours on 100 Nigerians, with about 40 per cent of the awards to be presented posthumously.

Don’t blame Jonathan for your woes, Turaki tells North

DUTSE—Former Jigawa  State Governor, Senator Saminu Turaki, yesterday, asked the North to stop blaming President Goodluck Jonathan for its perceived problems, saying that the North was its greatest enemy.

Turaki also defended the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan, describing it as one that believed in upholding social justice and fairness in the country.

He spoke, yesterday, in his country home, Kazaure, in Jigawa State, shortly after launching the Saminiyya Hallaci programme in the area.

According to him, contrary to insinuations that President Goodluck Jonathan was the cause of the problems of the north, the people of the area were their own major enemies.He explained that as a northerner, he had suffered more oppression from his fellow northerners as most of those throwing mud at him and his family were from there and not southerners.

Turaki further pointed out that people from the South-South – the president’s zone, had been treating him and his associates better than his fellow people, adding that “the people that destroyed the North are northerners, not southerners.”

The former governor, however, called for a- two party system in the country, saying that this would pave the way for Nigeria’s democracy to be strengthened.

He pointed out that the country was still going through a learning political process, adding that
with a two-party system, democracy would be strengthened as it would be easier to vote out an unpopular government.

He said that the major problem had always been that the party that controlled the Executive also controlled the Legislature and by extension the Judiciary.

His words: “When you have a two-party system, then there would be real democracy, it took America 200 years to reach where they are today; so, it is not done in one day.”

The former governor Turaki further described the emergence of the All Progressives Congress,  APC, as a strong opposition and the gale of defections in recent times as good omen for Nigerian democracy.

He likened the present situation in the country to the Ibrahim Babangida era when, as a military president, he formed the National Republican Convention, NRC, and Social Democratic Party, SDP, which, he described, as “a good trend because, at the end of the day, the country would have two strong parties.”

Amaechi’s NGF an extension of APC -Jang

Jang in a statement released in Abuja by the Media Office of his faction and signed by Mr. Kassim Yakubu on Wednesday, berated the NGF under the leadership of Amaechi.

He said the Forum was playing politics with the suspension of the CBN governor by President Jonathan noting that “Nigerians have grown weary of Governor Amaechi turning every issue even beyond his purview into a political opportunity.”

He reiterated that Amaechi was not speaking on behalf of the governors in the country as according to him, a vast majority of governors “do not share in the anti-federal government zeal that the Rivers state governor champions as evident in the ever reducing number of governors he parades.

“Nigerians want governors to perform their primary functions of running their states and not this obsession with President Jonathan by governor Amaechi and his cohorts.

” My advice to them is Nigerians and history will decide if President Jonathan has performed as President. This lowly behaviour will not win them an election.”

Jang also expressed his sympathies to the parents of the school children killed by the Boko Haram extremists in Yobe State and called on the security forces not to relent in their effort to fish out the evil perpetrators of the heinous act.

He also sent condolences to Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo state and the people of the state over the death of the speaker of the House of Assembly, Mr. Sam Adesina, who passed away in a Lagos hospital on Monday.

Increased Tempo of Boko Haram/Terrorist Activity in the Wake of the Sanusi Saga

In the wake of the saga involving the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, there has been an increase in the tempo of terrorist activities carried out by the Islamic Terrorist sect, Boko Haram.

Taken together with some historical facts, there is a strong case that this increase in tempo and other activities are not coincidental.

The following Timelines may throw some light on the likely linkages;

February 20th 2014: President Goodluck Jonathan suspends Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

February 20th 2014: Boko Haram attacks Bama town killing at least 47, wounding many and destroying houses.

February 23rd 2014: Boko Haram attacks Konduga Local Government, destroying houses, and allegedly killing scores of rural dwellers.

February 24th 2014: Borno State Governor’s convoy allegedly attacked by gunmen.

February 25th 2014: Boko Haram attacks Federal Government College, Buni Yada, in Yobe State, killing at least 29 students as they slept.

History
It is a historical fact that Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi was implicated in the Gideon Akaluka beheading affair of 1995 and was subsequently arrested in Kano and detained by the Abacha administration in Sokoto, Sokoto State.

Sanusi was released after the intervention of (amongst others) Alhaji Umaru Abdul Mutallab.

Alhaji Mutallab used his influence to place Sanusi comfortably in the banking sector beginning with the United Bank for Africa from where he moved to First Bank where he (Mutallab) was chairman.

Malam Sanusi rose within the ranks, aided by his relationship with Mutallab, until he was nominated by President Yar’adua and confirmed by the senate as the Governor of the CBN in 2009.

It is pertinent to note two incidences that cannot be coincidences. The son of Alhaji Umaru Abdul Mutallab (Farouk Abdul Mutallab) eventually entered into infamy when he was arrested and tried for attempting to detonate an under wear bomb on a Northwest Airlines flight into America. Farouk Abdul Mutallab became radicalized after he had gone to study Sharia and Islamic studies in Yemen in 2009.

This was exactly the same trajectory earlier taken by Sanusi Lamido Sanusi who schooled at the International University of Africa in Khartoum, Sudan in the mid 1990s while Osama Bin Laden was also a resident of the city.

Alhaji Umaru Abdul Mutallab appears to be a recurring decimal in the life of Sanusi and the unifying factor appears to be their passion for an Islamic world order. For example, one of Sanusi’s first act as Central Bank Governor was to begin the push for Islamic banking which culminated in the establishment of the first Islamic bank in Nigeria, Jaiz Bank. Alhaji Umaru Abdul Mutallab is the Managing Director of this bank.

Given the quantum of funds that were appropriated by the Sanusi led CBN on non banking related activities and donations, and the strong desire that he and Alhaji Umaru Abdul Mutallab have for proselytizing Islam as well as their circumstantial links to terror (Sanusi via Gideon Akaluka and Mutallab via his son) it is not such a leap for them to facilitate the activities of terrorists.

We’ve been trying to reach Malam Sanusi Lamido to respond to some of these allegations as they bother on national security..

AGN’s Visit To Aso Rock: Emeka Ike Moves To Settle Rift With Ibinabo

Reports reaching Nigeriafilms.com has it that contentious actor, Emeka Ike is now making moves to settle his rift with the current President of Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Ibinabo Fiberesima.

Perching birds in the industry informed us that this is not unconnected to the recent visit of AGN, led by Ibinabo, to President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan last week Tuesday in Abuja.

“Emeka has started making moves to reconcile with Ibinabo,” one of the sources told ,Nigeriafilms.com. “The guy wants to quickly resolve matters with Ibinabo so as to be carried along on the goodies that would follow the visit of some actors to President Goodluck Jonathan last Tuesday,” another source divulged to us.“I am aware that he has been sending some people to Madam President (Ibinabo) to beg her on his behalf. Seriously, I never imagined that Emeka would do this because he appeared to be stubborn and he was always fighting everybody,” one of the sources told Nigeriafilms.com.

It will be recalled that Ibinabo led some stars to Aso Rock to meet with President Jonathan Tuesday last week. At the meeting, Jonathan promised to support the industry, which he said is better than the media industry as according to him, they have wider reach and that while the media is elitist, Nollywood appeals to the people of the grassroots.
