Lere Paimo arrested, released on health grounds •Kosoko behind my plight — Eda

Actor, Lere Paimo, a.k.a Eda Onileola, was arrested in Ibadan last Thursday over court contempt allegation.
The actor had repeatedly refused to show up in a lower court in Ilorin in the case brought against him by the Association of Nigerian Theatre Practitioners (ANTP) over the conduct of an election that returned Comrade Victor Ashaolu as ANTP president in 2010.
Upon his arrest, Eda told the officer that he was not in good condition to embark on the trip to Kwara State and begged to be allowed to come to the capital city another time.
When the actor insisted that he needed medical help, which eventually convinced the officer of the seriousness of the actor’s situation, he took him to a police clinic in Ibadan for medical attention.
Eda was admitted for a day and was taken to Ilorin the next day to face contempt charge brought against him.
In Ilorin, ANTP lawyer, Abdulganiyu Bello, appealed to the police officers, after talking to the defendant’s lawyer, to allow Eda to go back to Ibadan after begging them not to jail him as that could kill him.
The lawyer confirmed to R in a phone conversation on Thursday evening that the actor was diabetic and should be allowed to take care of himself before they could proceed on any action.
“I have explained baba’s condition to the court and he was allowed to go back home. He actually could have been jailed if not for his ill health. As regards his final freedom though, it is only the court that can decide that”, he told R.
Asked why Eda was brought to Ilorin by police officer, he said the actor had refused to respond to court summons asking him to come and answer to charges against him by Dele Odule as regards ANTP election held in Ilorin in 2010 depsite a court order against the conduct
“On several occasions, Eda refused to honour the court and the court moved against him last week. He should obey the court the next time”, he advised.
Responding to the issue of summon, Lere Paimo blamed his predicament on Jide Kosoko and promised to fight on till justice is done.
“I know those behind my problem now, especially Jide Kosoko. I will not forgive them even if I am asked to, because my spirit will not forgive me if I do what you asked as regards forgiving them if they ask me to,” he added.
Kosoko, however, said Eda got it wrong if he believed he ordered his arrest from Lagos.
“With due respect to Baba Eda, who I hold dearly, I am not behind his legal problems or any other problems he is going through.
“Someone sued those who conducted an election a court had earlier instructed that should not be held and baba is now blaming me. I am not the court. A court issued a bench warrant for his arrest, not me, not ANTP”, the president of ANTP told R.
He added that he had never been to Ilorin since the case began and had nothing to do with the case in question.
“I pity baba because of his ill health and age, bit I don’t know anything about his legal crisis’’.

Rumors have swirled for years that Mrs. Clinton was an aggressive top, but nothing was ever confirmed. This explains why the former secretary of state and the Obama administration have thrown their full support behind gay marriage.

Simon & Schuster announced in April that Mrs. Clinton’s memoir will be published in 2014 — right before she announces her decision to run for president.

“Hillary’s going to come clean for the votes. She’ll admit that she’s a bisexual and has had lesbian relationships,” a source told The National Enquirer.

Ibori's $15million bribe: Court rejects bid to stop trial

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja yesterday threw out an appeal by a Lagos-based refrigerator repairer, Mr. Olalekan Bayode, on the ongoing trial over the $15 million bribe money.
Bayode is seeking to stop hearing in a lawsuit by the Federal Government on the controversial $15 million bribe allegedly offered by former Governor of Delta State, James Onanefe Ibori, to the then Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Nuhu Ribadu, to stop his trial for corruption.
In a unanimous decision, the three-man panel of the court presided over by Justice Aminu Sanusi, which heard the appeal, held that it was defective and grossly incompetent.
Specifically, the appellate court held that the appeal did not contain the grounds upon which it was filed.
The appeal was filed by a United Kingdom-based lawyer, Mr. John Kayode Olufemi Aina.
But Sanusi held that the motion was grossly defective beyond immediate remedy as it did not in any way comply with the Rules of the Court of Appeal.
Ibori allegedly offered the $15 million as bribe to Ribadu to compromise on his probe.
However, due to denial by Ibori, the money was kept in the vault of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, since 2007.
But last year, the Federal Government approached a Federal High Court to give order that the money be forfeited to it.
The court had already issued an interim order threatening to grant the Federal Government request if the real owner of the money did not show up within a stipulated period.
But before the expiration of the ultimatum, Delta State Government came to court to claim the fund, notwithstanding that Ibori had distanced himself from the money.

Subsidy scam: How Wagbatsoma defrauded Government of Billions – Witness

An Ikeja High Court was yesterday told that the Chief Executive Officer of Ontario Oil and Gas Limited, Walter Wagbatsoma and his co-defendants, forged some documents with which they defrauded the Federal Government.
Wagbatsoma along with Adaoha Ugo-Ngadi, Fakuade Babafemi Ebenezer, Ezekiel Olaleye Ejidele and Ontario Oil and Gas Nigeria Limited were arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on a nine-count charge bordering on altering, forgery, conspiracy and obtaining property by false pretences.
Testifying at the resumed hearing of the trial yesterday, Bamon Yalma, an Investigative Police Officer, IPO, with the EFCC, told Justice Lateefat Okunnu, that Ontario Oil and Gas Limited defrauded the Federal Government by falsely claiming to have discharged 18 million litres of petrol in 2010 while investigation revealed it only delivered 12 million litres of the product.
Led in evidence by the EFCC counsel, Mr. Rotimi Jacobs, SAN, he also informed the court that Ontario Oil and Gas in 2011 discharged 10 million litres of petrol but claimed to have delivered 19 million litres.
According to him; “We discovered during our investigation that the documents submitted to us claimed the company delivered 18 million litres of petrol while the true volume of litres delivered was 12 million.”
While being asked by the EFCC counsel that which of the litres was subsidy payment made for, he said payment was made for the amount declared by the company, not the true amount delivered.
He said; “Payment of oil subsidy claims was made for the quantity declared, not for the one delivered.”
The witness while being cross-examined by the first, second and fifth defendants’ counsel, Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN, said he did not personally investigate whether the quantity claimed is the quantity delivered.
He also denied investigating some documents tendered by Olanipekun, claiming that he could only speak within the confines of the investigation.

Man dies after eating insects at insect eating competion

A man died right after participating in a bug eating contest, according to reports.

The winner of a cockroach eating contest in South Florida died shortly after downing dozens of live insects and worms, officials said Monday.

About 30 participants ate insects during the contest Friday night at Ben Siegel Reptile Store in Deerfield Beach about 40 miles north of Miami. The grand prize winner received a python.

Edward Archbold, 32, of West Palm Beach fell ill shortly after the contest ended and collapsed in front of the store, according to a statement of the Broward Sheriff's Office released Monday. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Authorities are awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

"Unless some cockroaches were contaminated with bacteria or other pathogens, the cockroaches would be safe to eat," Michael Adams, professor of entomology at the University of California at Riverside said, who added that he has never heard of someone dying after consuming cockroaches. "Some people have allergies to cockroaches," he said, "but there are no toxins in cockroaches and related insects."

None of the other contestants got sick, the sheriff's office said. There was no phone number listed for Archbold in West Palm Beach. "We feel terribly awful," store owner Ben Siegel said, adding that Archbold did not seem to be sick before the contest.

"He looked like he just wanted to show off and was having a good time," Siegel said, adding that Archbold was "the life of the party."

Siegel said Archbold was selling the exotic prize to a friend who took him to the contest. A statement from the attorney of Siegel said that all participants signed waivers "to accept responsibility for their participation in this unique and unorthodox competition."

Insects were consumed from an insect inventory "that were grown at home in a safe and controlled environment as food for reptiles."
