US top think-tank, Brookings, project Jonathan win; say APC is a fragile anti-Jonathan setup (EXCLUSIVE)

Brookings, the World’s most influential think-tank based in the United States, have projected a President Jonathan victory over the opposition candidate’s General Buhari in the 2015 Elections which it suggests would be keenly contested.

The analysis, context and rationale of the think-tank’s projections is contained in the Brookings publication titled: Foresight Africa – Top Priorities for the continent (January 2015).

“Though the election is expected to be very competitive, the odds still favor President Jonathan.’

According to Brookings, the All Progressives Congress (APC) is a fragile anti-jonathan establishment with a sole purpose to return power to the north.

“The party is, however, a fragile one that seems united only in its quest to wrest the presidency from Jonathan or to have power “returned” to the north”

“The APC gets much of its strength from tap- ping into anti-Jonathan sentiments in the Muslim north and grievances among the Yoruba who feel that the Jonathan administration has ignored them in key political appointments.”

The Report also indicated that the APC’s strategy is hinged on a combination of popular votes from the North West, North East and “the battleground SouthWest” but also hinted at the possibility of Bola Ahmed Tinubu not delivering the region contrary to speculations.

“What remains to be seen, however, is whether Bola Tinubu—a former governor of Lagos State who played a pivotal role in the formation of the APC and is considered to be the party’s strongest mobi- lizer in the southwest—will be very enthusias- tic in delivering the battleground southwest to the APC during the elections.”

“Tinubu indicated his interest in being the party’s vice presidential candidate but being a Muslim like Buhari, the party’s strategists felt that a Muslim-Muslim ticket might offend Christians and cement the PDP’s labeling of the APC as an Islamic party.”

On President Jonathan’s performance: “despite Boko Haram—the country is thriving: The economy continues to grow and—with the re- basing of its GDP—became the largest econo- my in Africa and the 26th largest in the world. Jonathan’s supporters also point to his success in containing the Ebola virus, which earned him commendations from countries and institutions around the world.”

The Brookings Report also identified factors such as incumbency and numerical control of States where PDP has 21 States and APC only 14 as giving PDP an edge.

“The greatest strength of the ruling PDP is its “power of incumbency,” and all the institutional support that goes with it. Not only does it have federal resources to use as patronage, it also controls key institutions”

The report advised that all efforts should be deployed to ensure a free, fair and transparent elections and to avoid a meltdown as post-election violence seems very likely.

“Post-election violence is therefore likely in the north if the APC loses while renewed militancy in the restive Niger Delta is likely if Jonathan does.” the report noted.

NICK AND MARIAH

THE COST OF EMANCIPATION

from Mimi

EXCLUSIVE

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon have a prenup with a confidentiality clause ... and if she blabs out of school she gets socked for twice what he'd have to pay if he violates it.

Sources familiar with the situation tell TMZ ... if Nick violates the confidentiality clause he has to pay her a $250,000 penalty, but if she spills the beans she has to pay him $500K.

And the prenup makes it clear ... Mariah came into the marriage with a boatload of money ... Nick, not so much.

The prenup says Mariah is worth $150 million ... she has so much, $30 million is listed as "miscellaneous." Nick came into the marriage in 2008 with a little less than $500K.

He's done well since then, making millions on his various projects, but when they married he ended up buying her engagement ring for $500,000 but took a loan out for $470K. The ring was reportedly worth $2.5 mil, but that's not what he paid.

As we reported ... they've already worked out a full property settlement agreement.

Bieber was in Beverly Hills Friday clutching "As a Man Thinketh" ... an essay from 1902 by James Allen that many consider a very helpful personal development tool.

The book stresses the importance of your own thoughts ... and how they can effect your personal life. Think "The Secret" ... but much older.

EXCLUSIVE PHOTO
Jennifer Aniston Angelina Jolie Critics Choice AwardsWe're gonna need a bigger room ... is what Critics' Choice Awards planners must have been saying withJennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie showing up at the same event for the first time in years.

The ex and current Mrs. Pitt were actually photographed together -- several dozens of feet apart -- in a wide shot of the room ... making it clear someone (who wants to remain employed) was careful to seat them as far away as possible from each other.

We're told there were no chance run-ins between them during the show -- their first close encounter since the 2009 Oscars. For the record ... both women lost last night.
Although Justin Theroux was with Jennifer ... Angie was riding solo. Brad's no dummy.

ACCUSER CHLOE GOINS IS A LIAR

EXCLUSIVE

Bill Cosby has PROOF he was not even at the Playboy Mansion the night one of his accusers claims he sexually assaulted her ... so says Cosby's lawyer.

Legal pit bull Marty Singer tells TMZ ... on the date in question -- August 9, 2008 -- he has flight and telephone records that clearly place Cosby in New York City ... 2,500 miles from the Mansion.

Chloe Goins claims Cosby gave her a drink at the Mansion during the Midsummer Night's Party and the next thing she knew she was naked in a bedroom as Cosby sucked her toes and masturbated.

Goins filed a police report this week with the LAPD, but it's problematic. The alleged incident occurred a little more than 6 years ago, and the statute of limitations is 6 years for all sexual assaults except rape -- the rape statute is 10 years, but up to this point Goins never alleged penetration.

Singer says Cosby's team will be "providing documentary evidence to the appropriate authorities which conclusively establishes Mr. Cosby's whereabouts on August 9th."

And one more thing ... the August 9th party was extensively covered by the media, and photos were published of the various celebs in attendance, including Paris HiltonMatthew PerryJason Statham and Bill Maher. There are no pics or mention of Cosby.

Chris Brown Might go to Jail over Club Shootings

Chris Brown has been trying to keep a clean image but it seems there is always violence where he goes. Is he typically involved in the violence? No. Whoever is around him, or perhaps it’s just bad luck, but Chris Brown-related events have lately ended in blood, nevertheless this issue is certainly an interesting one…
Chris Brown has had his probation revoked in the Rihanna case, in part because he was present at 2 separate nightclubs when people inside were shot, and officials are worried about more shootings and think Chris should serve time behind bars. Chris showed up for a progress report Thursday, when the judge told him the probation report presented multiple problems. First, the report mentions the shooting last Sunday in San Jose when Chris was on stage. Five people were injured.

The judge also said the probation report expressed concern over another shooting at 1OAK during VMA weekend last August. Again, Chris was on stage and several people were shot, including Suge Knight. And the judge said Chris left the county for San Jose without getting the court’s permission, which is a violation of his probation. As for why the shootings are an issue, they were raised in the probation report. The judge noted so far there’s no evidence Chris was criminally involved, but the probation officer says, “There is also concern that when he performs or attends at some of his public events, people will get shot or seriously injured.”

The probation officer also notes Chris has been arrested twice while on probation — once for assault in DC and also for throwing a rock at his mom’s car in rehab. And the officer notes Chris was “making comments about knives and guns during a group [rehab] meeting.” The probation officer — who thinks Chris is focusing too much on his career rather than community service and rehabilitation — recommends to the judge that Chris serve time. The officer says the singer has shown “a pattern of making choices that are counterproductive.” The judge will hold a formal hearing March 20. If hizzoner determines Chris “willfully” violated probation, he could be in big trouble. The violations are felonies, which means prison is on the line.

It would definitely be crazy to send Chris Brown back to prison for incidents that he directly wasn’t involved in. Sounds like they’re trying to get him on that guilty by association. We’ll keep you updated on CB’s situation as the story develops, hit the next page to see video from the court hearing.

Man busted for trying to smuggle 94 iPhones strapped to his body

Photos released by customs authorities show dozens of neatly shrink-wrapped shiny iPhones strapped around the man's body.

Beijing (CNN)When it comes to smuggling, not all mules are created equal.

Chinese customs officials on Sunday busted a Hong Kong man trying to sneak 94 iPhones into the mainland -- by strapping them on his body.

The man caught the attention of inspectors at the Futian crossing in Shenzhen, a southern Chinese metropolis bordering Hong Kong, when he walked like someone carrying a heavy load despite appearing to travel light, customs officials told CNN on Tuesday.

After finding nothing suspicious in his two plastic shopping bags, officials asked the man to pass through a metal detector -- and the alarm went off.

Photos released by customs authorities show dozens of neatly shrink-wrapped shiny iPhones strapped around the man's chest, abdomen, crotch and thighs with duct tape.

Officials discovered both the iPhone 6 and iPhone 5S models and estimated the total value of the devices to exceed 300,000 yuan ($49,000).

The man -- whose record revealed numerous previous run-ins with customs regulations -- was held for further questioning.

Mainland market

Apple's iPhones are immensely popular in Mainland China. In October, it took just six hours for customers of the country's three mobile carriers to reserve one million units of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus ahead of their official launch.

Apple handsets are more expensive in the mainland than Hong Kong, however, due to higher import taxes.

An iPhone 6 with 64 gigabytes of storage, for instance, sells for almost $1,000 in the mainland but only about $820 in Hong Kong -- and the price difference has created a huge and lucrative black market supplied by smugglers.

Shenzhen customs officials disclosed that they have caught 18 mules strapping smuggled electronic products -- including 282 iPhones -- on their bodies since December
For the Hong Kong mule caught on Sunday, he may have lost his 94 iPhones, but likely made the record books.

Obasanjo, Pastor Adeboye, Oyedepo and others attend Jonathan’s daughter’s wedding

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo joined other dignitaries to grace the church wedding of President Goodluck Jonathan’s foster daughter, Inebharapu and her husband Simeon, at the National Christian Centre, Abuja, yesterday
Obasanjo arrived in the venue with Dr. Andy Uba and some other aides before the commencement of the service. He was ushered into the hall amidst standing ovation and took his seat at the VIP section. A loud applause from the congregation also greeted his introduction during the service.
In his admonition on the occasion, President Jonathan advised the couple to learn to solve their marital problems themselves without involving a third party, including their parents. He further urged the couple to embrace the virtue of endurance, adding that they should not bring their problems to him, as he already had enough on his hands to handle.
The President, in his vote of thanks at the service, recognised the presence of Obasanjo.
Delivering his sermon, the Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Most Revd. Nicholas Okoh, noted that although marriage as an institution was ordained by God, it had been having problems from the beginning with Adam and Eve.
He urged the couple to keep the vow they made before God so that they can attract the blessings therein to themselves. Okoh urged them to always forgive each other no matter what, warning against keeping diary of offences for each other.
The cleric though noted the importance of money in marriage, he stressed that the bride and groom were not joined together as business partners.
Okoh also used the occasion to again kick against same-sex marriage which he described as sinful, artificial and shameful. “We encourage young people to reject that new introduction of young men marrying men or women marrying women,” he said.
Speaking at the reception held at the International Conference Centre (ICC), the Chairman, Senate President, David Mark, who represented Vice President Namadi Sambo urged the couple to properly define each other’s roles in the home so as to avoid conflict.
“Any man whose marriage is successful today, it is because the husband has allowed the wife to take the minor decision in the house and he the major decision. If there is a football match in the house, if your husband’s team is losing and your team is winning and your husband is boasting that his team will win, encourage and support him, that is a major decision.”
Frank Edogho of ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire” and Helen Paul, a presenter of Jara on African Magic, were on hand to entertain the guests at the reception. Music was supplied by Kola Sax, popular international gospel artiste, Ron Konely did a special love song entitled: “You are my everything.”
Prominent among dignitaries who attended the service were: the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha; Governor Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom); Governor Jonah Jang (Plateau); Governor Seriake Dickson (Bayelsa); Governor Liyel Imoke (Cross River); Governor Gabriel Suswam (Benue); former Governor Peter Odili; and Chief Edwin Clark.
Eminent men of God such as Pastor Enoch Adeboye; Bishop David Oyedepo, Archbishop Sam Amanga, and Pastor Paul Adefarasi, were also present at the occasion.
