'We Have Not Committed Any Wrong To Deserve Amnesty''– Boko Haram

The leader of the radical Islamist group Boko Haram has rejected the idea of any potential amnesty deal, which the country’s presidency said it would study in a bid to curb a bloody insurgency, in a statement obtained by AFP Thursday.

Abubakar Shekau, the purported head of Boko Haram who has been designated a global terrorist by the United States, claimed his group had “not committed any wrong to deserve amnesty.”

“Surprisingly, the Nigerian government is talking about granting us amnesty. What wrong have we done? On the contrary, it is we that should grant you pardon,” he said, listing what he described as the state’s “atrocities” against Muslims.

The Hausa language audio recording was distributed by email in a manner consistent with previous Boko Haram messages, and the voice was similar to that of previous Shekau statements.

President Goodluck Jonathan last week formed a panel to look at the possibility of offering an amnesty deal to the Islamists, whose insurgency has left more than 3,000 people dead since 2009, including killings by the security services.

Jonathan has come under intense pressure over the issue, with politicians from the country’s violence-torn north as well as Nigeria’s highest Muslim spiritual figure, the Sultan of Sokoto, calling for amnesty.

The panel, reportedly to be composed of national security officials, northern leaders and others, is due to report later this month.

The move has been widely debated in Nigerian media in recent days.

Boko Haram has claimed to be fighting for an Islamic state in Africa’s most populous nation and largest oil producer.

The group also claimed the February 19 kidnapping of a French family of seven over the border in Cameroon. Their whereabouts remain unknown.

Boko Haram’s demands however have repeatedly shifted and the group is believed to include various factions in addition to imitators.

Nigeria offered an amnesty to militants in the southern oil-producing Niger Delta region in 2009, which has been credited with greatly reducing unrest there, though oil theft has since flourished.

Violence blamed on Boko Haram has been concentrated in the mostly Muslim north.

Christian and Muslim civilians, the security services and other symbols of authority have been among the group’s victims.

Should the battle for sexy actors also be another topic for debate among Ghana and Nigerian movie fans, or should concerned people of the art rather name and shame actors who don’t put much effort in their acting career?

We came across one hot debate that generated lots of comments and insults on Facebook, twitter,etc. One Ghanaian actor who was actively campaigning and debating against Nigerian actors is actor- Leo Mensah, one of Ghana’s promising actors. 

Though it wasn’t too clear how the whole debate started, the debate was able to generate lots of comments and insults amongst citizens in other African countries on Facebook, 

In the process, Ghanaian actor, Leo Mensah stated that Nigerian actors could be better than Ghanaian actors in acting, but when it comes to whose actors are sexier and looks nicer or sexiest and nicest in Africa, Ghanaian actors stand tall.

Leo Mensah mentioned his name and described himself as sexier than all Nigerian actors, specifically - Jim Ike and Ramsey Nouah and also added that apart from him, no single Nigerian actor can compare his sexiness to any Ghanaian actor like John Dumelo, Van Vicker, etc

This might be a Facebook enmity to entertain their fans and also keep the Ghana-Nigeria debate going, but one question we want to ask is; is it true that Ghanaian actors are sexier than Nigerian actors? Keep the discussion alive….

UPDATE! Yoruba Actress Caught In A Room By Husband

This story has been trending but I decided not to dabble into it until I know more with regards to what actually transpired between Yoruba actress, Mercy Aigbe and her husband Mr Lanre Gentry.

To the Mercy Aigbe saga: There are many sides to the story but some are more believable than others. For those of you who have already read part of the story, this won't be hard to understand.

When on Sunday April 7, Mercy Aigbe's husband arrived Troy Lounge in Ogba for the launch of a TV network where his wife was a special guest, the man didn't know that something strange was cooking. If his wife is even tempted to do any "runs", he would think such will only happen in his absence.

But this was different. From what TON gathered from sources, Mercy Aigbe and her husband got to the venue in their different cars like strangers. The husband sat alone for about 30 minutes before his wife joined him. His wife went into the studio for an interview and the man waited all alone again until he almost lost his patience.

She was said to have later came out, spend a few minutes with him and excused herself. A source said the husband got suspicious at this stage as she didn't state exactly where she was going. He started looking for her; he searched everywhere, even the "ladies toilet" but Mercy Aigbe was no where to be found.

The husband got so agitated, at a point he forced the MC of the event to call out his wife. TON confirmed from multiple sources at the event that the MC actually shouted "Where is Mercy oh!!", yet the actress was still no where to be found.

It was when one of top men in the organisation saw that Mercy's Husband was ready to "scatter the place" that they took him to a room, claiming his wife was "resting". When the door was opened, Mercy's husband was shocked to see his wife in a "night gown". She actually came to the party with a short black dress.

Night gown? For what? What is going on here? I here Mr Gentry immediately dragged Mercy away, flipped her into his own car and drove off, leaving her own car behind...

Her defence: I hear Mercy is now claiming that she was no longer comfortable with the clothe she wore to the party but has refused to say how she got the night gown. Did she come from home prepared or something else was actually going on in the room before the husband came?

She also claimed that her car developed fault that was why she joined her husband and not necessarily because he caught her in the room. But Stella Dimikoko Korkus who broke the news has said that there was nothing wrong with Mercy's car as the car started without any problem when they later came for it.

Several accusations and denials have been made but one things is clear: somebody is not telling the truth.

''It wasn’t MEND, disgruntled ex-militants did it'' – Gov Dickson as 10 bodies of dead policemen rec

The body of ten policemen killed in an ambush on Saturday night in Bayelsa state have been recovered.

The bodies were recovered yesterday by the police who brought them to  the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa and refused access to the facility even to journalists milling around the area.

According to Punch Newspaper reports:

Twelve policemen on escort duty were murdered in the attack along the Azuzama waterways of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state which the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta had already claimed responsibility for.

The recovered bodies were brought to the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, on Tuesday evening by policemen who barricaded the mortuary area of the hospital. The policemen kept journalists at bay and seized cameras of newsmen who attempted capturing the scene.

Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Kingsley Omire, was not at the scene to receive the bodies and there were speculations that the bodies had been dismembered with some of them burnt.

A statement by Governor Seriake Dickson said a combined team of security operatives recovered the 10 bodies along the creeks.

The statement, which was signed by Dickson’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Iworiso-Markson, also quoted Omire as saying that it took the combined efforts of men of the Joint Security Task Force to ensure the recovery of the corpses.

But some of the recovered bodies were reportedly burnt beyond recognition and mutilated by their killers.

The victims were also reportedly stripped of their uniforms and rifles after the attack.

After waiting for a long time at the Governmen Jetty in Yenagoa, some of the bereaved families were denied access to the bodies when they were finally brought ashore at 6:45pm.

Our correspondent observed that the jetty was protected by armed policemen, including the operatives of the state security outfit, codenamed Operation Door Akpo.

The owner of one of the boats used by the attacked policemen said the bodies were not recovered from the river but at a point in the creek where the bodies have been severely mutilated.

The Punch reports continues thus:

“That was why it took a long time to see their bodies,” he said.

He also insisted that the uniforms and rifles of the victims were taken away by the bandits.

He countered the statement of the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kingsley Omire, that the victims were attacked after their boat developed a fault.

Omire had said that his men succumbed to attack when the boat in which they were travelling became faulty.

But the source who pleaded anonymity said the boat was in motion when the bandits launched the attack.

“The boat was moving at a slow pace because of the capacity of its engine when their occupants were attacked,” he said.

Dickson said on Tuesday that the recovery of the bodies was contrary to media reports that the killers went away with the bodies of the dead policemen.

He also debunked the claim by MEND that it was responsible for the attack.

“The recent development has put paid to the fact that the attack was carried out by a group of disgruntled ex-militants who have issues to settle among themselves, but have clearly overstepped their bounds by their action”, he said.

Restating his administration’s stance on zero tolerance for criminality, the governor assured the bereaved families and the entire people of the state that the security operatives would arrest the perpetrators.

He also told the families of the 12 policemen killed in the attack that their deaths would not be in vain as the government “is determined more than ever before to bring the perpetrators to book.”

MEND on Sunday claimed that its fighters killed the 12 policemen whose boat was ambushed in Azuzama on Saturday and that their deaths were to teach the security forces a lesson for scorning its warning.

The militant group had last week announced that it would resume attacks in the oil rich Niger Delta by Friday to avenge alleged collaboration between the Federal Government and South Africa to jail its former leader, Henry Okah.

Security agencies had dismissed the threat and said they were ready for MEND which tagged its promised resurgence of attacks, “Hurricane Exodus.”

Boko Haram Members Behind The Mask

The Governor of Borno State had had several meetings with Boko Haram members. I am not sure how he contacted them or made the arrangement. What am I saying here?

Girl, 17, dies following suicide attempt after alleged gang-rape by 4 boys (PICTURED)

A 17-year-old Canadian girl died Sunday following a suicide attempt last week. The family of Rehtaeh Parsons said that their daughter never recovered from an alleged rape by four teenage boys in November 2011 that left her deeply depressed and rejected by her community.

Placed on life support last Thursday at a local hospital, Rehtaeh Parsons died on April 7 after her family made the decision to take her off the life support.

In a Facebook memorial page, the girl’s mother, Leah Parsons, wrote that Rehtaeh had been shunned and harassed after one of the boys allegedly involved in the rape took a picture of the incident and distributed it to their “school and community, where it quickly went viral.”

“Rehtaeh is gone today because of the four boys that thought that raping a 15-year-old girl was okay, and to distribute a photo to ruin her spirit and reputation would betook a photo of another boy having sex with Rehtaeh Parsons and sent it to friends.

Gawker writes that the bullying got so bad after the photo circulated that the family was forced to relocate.

“She was never left alone. She had to leave the community. Her friends turned against her. People harassed her. Boys she didn’t know started texting her and Facebooking her asking her to have sex with them. It just never stopped,” Leah Parsons told the CBC.

Canada’s Chronicle Herald reports that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police completed a yearlong criminal investigation of the sexual assault, but “there wasinsufficient evidence to lay charges.” A police spokesman told the newspaper that authorities are now “investigating a sudden death involving a young person.”

In an interview on CBC Radio program “Maritime Noon,” Leah Parsons said that the family was “devastated” when they learned criminal charges would not be filed.

“[The police] said that they would go talk to them and that [the boys] realized what they did was wrong, but [there was] nothing they could do, criminally,” Parsons said. “It was a slap in the face.”

Although Rehtaeh was a 15-year-old minor at the time of the alleged rape, “because she was on the cusp of not being underage” prosecutors thought the accused could claim that they did not know she was under the age of consent, Parsons told Maritime Noon. According to Parsons, the four boys accused of rape were younger than 18 at the time of the incident.

As described by Parsons, the shaming and harassment stemming from the incident had long-lasting psychological and emotional effects on her daughter. Parsons also told Maritime Noon that Rehtaeh suffered from depression and had checked herself into a hospital after having suicidal thoughts last March. A Twitter account that appears to have belonged to Parsons features references to drug culture, as well as what appears to be drug paraphernalia.
