PHOTOS: Late Goldie Harvey Wills Her Property To Charity

Goldie's properties, according to his family are going to be auctioned for "Project Alert On Violence Against Women" Charity.
The deceased, Goldie Harvey was passionate about this organization that she was always fraternising with them.
And now that she is no more, we learnt, she has put it in record that her property should be auctioned and the money realized should go into Project Alert’s pulse.

Though, the late Nigerian artiste is gone but can never be forgotten! Her properties will be auctioned to the general public on the 1st of May 2013. The sale of her property is to raise funds for “Project Alert on Violence Against Women” NGO.

Project Alert is a non-governmental women’s rights organisation set up to provide information on all forms of violence against women and render support services to female victims of violence. Project Alert is being established to play this critical role. Ideal as it may seem to affiliate Project Alert to one of the already existing women’s rights organisation, this will only succeed in further playing down the importance and seriousness of these issues. Violence against women is a cog in the wheel of this country’s development process.

The public will be informed of the address of where this auction will take place as soon as possible.

Annie Macaulay – Idibia ‘mobbed’!

Fresh from hosting family and friends to multi-million naira wedding festivities in faraway Dubai, Annie Macaulay- Idibia was the cynosure of all eyes at the event. Attired in white and grey, fresh-faced Annie nearly took the shine off every other guest present at Omawumi’s Lasso of Truth concert as everybody wanted to either hug her, congratulate or take pictures with her. Even the paparazzi would not let her be as they clicked away.
Meanwhile, so many of the female guests could not take their eyes off newly wedded Innocent Idibia a.k.a Tuface. The African Queen crooner entered the venue dressed in a black suit teamed with his usual eyewear. If he thought he had escaped from the bevy of ladies who besieged him back stage, Omawumi, the hostess, lured him to serenade the audience with one of his popular numbers. Guess the one she chose? ‘If Love is A Crime’! The crowd went wild. Indeed, he remains a ladies’ man.

Police paid N1m ransom to free kidnapped cop’

Indication emerged yesterday that the Bayelsa State Police Command paid N1 million ransom to secure the release one of the 12 policemen, Lucky Ebebi, who was reported killed by former militants at Azuzuama in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state.
The former militants kidnapped Ebebi, a Corporal, and whisked him to their camp in the creeks. But investigations by National Mirror revealed that the victim was freed last Wednesday after spending barely a week in the militants’ camp.
A police source, who did not want his name mentioned, said that Ebebi was admitted at the emergency ward of the Federal Medical Centre in Yenagoa, where he was treated of bullet injuries before he was discharged yesterday.
The source said Ebebi reported at the state police headquarters yesterday for debriefing.
The source, however, added that a Greek and Indonesian, who were earlier kidnapped by the abductors, were released with Ebebi. Ebebi’s elder brother, Victor, confirmed that his sibling was alive.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Alex Akhigbe, denied that the command paid N1 million to secure Ebebi’s release.
Akhigbe said: “Where will we get the money? No ransom was paid for his release.”

Why NFF is unhappy with Keshi

The subtle battle between Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi and his employers, the Nigeria Football Federation may blow into a full scale war when the absentee coach returns from his trip to Carlifonia, USA.

On return, Keshi is bound to meet a charged atmosphere which has been incensed by his alleged absence from the April 10 technical committee meeting in which he was expected to discuss Eagles’ busy schedule in May, June and July.

To start with, sources at the Glass House hinted that the NFF will issue Keshi, a query for failing to attend Wednesday’s technical and development committee meeting in Abuja.

The Nigerian coach was in Lagos this week to take delivery of two cars promised him by Globacom chairman, Mike Adenuga Jr.

But Keshi, 51, left for California in the United States of America (USA) to see his family, leaving executive members of the federation furious.

Chairman of the NFF Media and Publicity Committee, Emeka Inyama, told journalists in Abuja that Keshi will have to explain to his employers why he was absent from the meeting with the federation’s technical and development committee.

“The federation officially invited Keshi to discuss with the technical committee on some salient issues affecting the team. These include his recent issues with captain of the team, Joseph Yobo as well as Osaze Odemwingie.

Also, the technical committee wants to know his programmes for the (Fifa) Confederations Cup and the World Cup qualifiers. But he didn’t show up.

“Yet we know he was in Lagos to take delivery of the cars given to him by Chief Mike Adenuga before leaving the country. Yes he had booked his flight to leave the country but I’m also a regular traveller and I don’t think spending $120 (about N19,000) to reschedule his flight would be too much.

“The federation will be demanding a lot of explanation from him because this is serious business and a national business too,” said Inyama.

Keshi guided Nigeria to win the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa in February this year but fell out with the federation even before the final.

Keshi raged because he found out how he would have been sacked if he failed. His actions and comments painted the federation in bad light and nobody gave the federation any credit for the success in South Africa.

The African champions will start off their busy schedule with an international friendly with Mexico in Houston on May 31 before making trips to Kenya and Namibia in June for the 2014 Fifa World Cup qualifiers.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles are drawn in Group B with Tahiti, Uruguay and world champions, Spain.

Nigerian Student Dies After MMA Fight

A Canada-based Nigerian student has reportedly died after competing in mixed martial art contest in Michigan, USA on Saturday.

US authorities say the 35-year-old Nigerian man, who collapsed and died after the fight, had been living in Canada on a student visa.

Police Capt. Jeff Baker identified the man as Felix Nchikwo, but known in the ring as Pablo Elochukwu.

Baker did not release Nchikwo’s place of residence or school in Canada or his Nigerian hometown.
Authorities say he told a trainer he wasn’t feeling well after losing the fight Saturday night at a Port Huron American Legion Post.

The heavyweight, who sources say weighed 265 pounds for his MMA debut on Friday and was also a three-time gold-medal winner on the local grappling circuit, was competing in an unsanctioned event. According to sources, neither he nor his opponent was required to undergo pre-fight medicals for their bout.

The first two rounds were said to have been mostly grappling, but the inexperienced fighters both began showcasing signs of fatigue, especially in between rounds two and three.

Sometime in the third round, Nchikwo was mounted and was not intelligently defending what were deemed to be soft hammer fists. The referee was forced to stop the bout.

Authorities conducted an autopsy on Sunday but say it was inconclusive, and they’re now awaiting the results of forensic tests to seek the cause of death.

FG, Not Us Needs Amnesty – Boko Haram

Leader of militant Boko Haram Islamic sect, Abubakar Shekau, yesterday, rejected the idea of any potential amnesty deal which the Federal Government may offer the sect members if the committee set up to look into it gives the go-ahead.
Shekau, in a 30-minute audio recording, where he spoke in Hausa, Arabic and English declared that his group had “not committed any wrong to deserve amnesty”. He said it was the government that should be seeking amnesty from his group and not the other way round, adding that even though the sect was the one wronged and the one that should be asked for amnesty, it was not ready to grant any pardon to the government.
Shekau was reacting to the reported setting up of a committee last week by the National Security and Defence Council to consider the possibility of granting amnesty to Boko Haram. The committee is due to present its report to the council next week.
Shekau’s recorded video statement, first passed by intermediaries of Boko Haram to journalists in Northern Nigeria, yesterday, featured the militant leader talking about the possibility of an amnesty deal. Speaking in Hausa, Shekau said the amnesty deal was “surprising.”
He said: “We are the one to grant them pardon. Have you forgotten their atrocities against us?”
The man in the video later threatened the lives of anyone claiming to be a representative of Boko Haram.
“We are surprised that today it is the Federal Government saying it will grant us amnesty. Oh God, is it we who will grant you amnesty or you are the one to grant us amnesty?
forgotten your sin, have you forgotten what you have done to us in Plateau, the state you called Jos. We emerged to avenge killings of our Muslim brothers and the destruction of our religion. Was it not in Plateau that we saw people cannibalising our brothers?”
How Amnesty talks began
The idea of an amnesty, came to a head in March when the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar called for it. Others have suggested offering an amnesty deal in line with one previously given to militants in the Niger Delta in 2009.
President Goodluck Jonathan had at the end of the National Security Council meeting last week Thursday set up a committee to look into the possibility of granting amnesty to the Islamic sect.
The previous day, the president was said to have met for several hours with members of the powerful Northern Elders’ Forum, NEF at the Presidential Villa where a deal was reached to grant amnesty to Boko Haram members as a means of ending the spate of raging violence across the region.
Specifically, the President wanted an undertaking from the elders that they would impress upon the sect leaders and their followers to lay down their arms and embrace peace, as a condition for offering the olive branch.
Under the plan, the Federal Government is to set up an Amnesty Commission, which would serve as a quasi-judicial body, to register and cater for repentant members of the sect and protect them from being harassed or intimidated by security agents.
A faction of the sect had last Sunday rejected the amnesty offer, saying the group did not ask for it. Spokesman of a faction of the sect, Abu Dardam who spoke on the Hausa service of the BBC stated that they are rejecting the amnesty because they don’t recognize democracy as a form of government and that the group does not agree with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, arguing that justice can only be found in the Holy Quran, that is Shariya system of government.
Go ahead with amnesty, Northern elders tell FG
Meanwhile, Northern elders, yesterday, asked the Federal Government to go ahead with fine-tuning the processes that would lead to granting unconditional amnesty to members of the Boko Haram sect despite claims that the group is not seeking pardon.
The elders spoke in reaction to the claim purportedly made by the sect leader, Abubakar Shekau, that it did not do anything to warrant amnesty and that it was the group that should even pardon the government for atrocities committed against Muslims.
The Spokesman for the Northern Elders’ Forum, Prof Ango Abdullahi, told Vanguard in an interview that the argument over who was right or wrong was not as important as achieving peace in the North.
According to the NEF, what matters at the moment is how to bring about a cessation of violence and not who is right or wrong.
Abdullahi said: “We have heard various arguments following the setting up of a committee on amnesty but we are interested in making peace and not apportioning blames.
“If two drivers are involved in an accident that closes a highway, I think the first thing to do is to clear the highway before checking who was right or wrong so that other road users would not suffer unduly,” he said.
“Our advice therefore, is that the Federal Government should not be distracted but should proceed with what it is doing to grant amnesty to the group so as to bring about peace and development in the region,” the spokesman admonished.
Military warns against withdrawal of soldiers from streets
Indications also emerged, yesterday, that the high command of the armed forces was ready to endorse the amnesty proposal of the Jonathan administration, provided the officers and soldiers deployed to the trouble spots where militant groups had been carrying out deadly attacks and bombings were left on standby.
The military high command also argued that if the Boko Haram sect rejected the olive branch of amnesty being offered them by the federal government, then it (military) will be justified on its initial stand that military option is the language terrorrists understand.
Towards this end, the military have resolved to present a common report and recommendations endorsing the amnesty to the panel set up under the watch of the National Security Adviser, Col Sambo Dasuki (rtd). They would however insist on retaining soldiers on the streets of the terrorist prone –risk states.
At a meeting on Tuesday presided over by the CDS, Admiral Ola Ibrahim, the military chiefs deliberated on the proposed amnesty for the Boko Haram sect members.
Sources said that after several hours, the service chiefs having reviewed what transpired at the Security Council meeting and having presented the position of their services individually, harmonized their position which the CDS would submit to the NSA panel as a MEMO.
“The meeting reviewed last week minutes of the Security Council including several media reports on the issue. They agreed there was a need to let the amnesty option be.
They however expressed reservations if the leadership of the Boko Haram sect would ever accept it. If they don’t, it would justify their position that it is only the force that could call the terrorists to order.
“The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Ihejirika, was said to have reiterated his position at the meeting that ‘You don’t negotiate with terrorists anywhere in the world because of their selfish agenda’.

The Chief of Defence Staff himself explained to his team that as a Muslim, he knows that the Boko Haram sect members are not behaving as Muslims. He urged his colleagues to let the amnesty be the an alternative to the force.

He said, ‘those who accepted it must meet certain conditions and to be kept under a watch while those who reject it should be decisively dealt with.”
Another source, disclosed that the service chiefs, in their report, stated that the soldiers should remain on the streets as long as the bombing continued.
They (military chiefs) faulted those calling for their withdrawal adding, “as long as the factor that brought the soldiers on the streets persists, our soldiers remain on the streets.”
The source explained that the military strongly believed some people are using the sect for political purposes but appreciate the professionalism in the way the soldiers have been fighting the terrorists.
They also resolved to ensure good welfare package for the soldiers who are involved in the war against terrorism.
If their recommendations are accepted, some retired military officers might be among those that would constitute the Amnesty Committee. Their recommendations might have been submitted ahead of next week Security Council Meeting.
The stand of the Service Chiefs was in line with that of subordination to civil authority and one which shows the armed forces being loyal to their Commander in Chief.
Recall that President Goodluck Jonathan last week mandated the NSA to set up a panel to study the possibility or otherwise of granting amnesty to the Boko Haram sect whose members have been terrorizing some states in the North in their quest to impose Sharia on the polity.
At the meeting presided over by the President were the National Security Adviser, the Chief of Defence Staff, Admiral S Ola Ibrahim, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Azubuike Ihejirika, Chief of Air Force, Air Marshal Alex Sabundu Badeh, Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Dele Ezeoba-, the Inspector General of Police, Mr Mohammed Abubakar.
Others were the Director General of the State Security Services, Ekpenyong Ita, Director, Military Intelligent (DMI), Brigadier- General Letam Wiwa, DG, Nigerian Intelligent Agency (NIA), Major General S.Y Audu. Others were the Ministers of State for Defence, Erelu Olusola Obada, Interior, Abba Moro and that of Police Affairs, Caleb Olubolade.

Student Dies While Texting And Driving (See Final Text Before The Car Crashed)

Parents of a college student who died in a car accident while sending a text are now sharing that final message in hopes to stopping others from dying similar crashes.
Alexander Heit, 22, died shortly after the April 3 crash, but his parents and police are hoping the photo of the mundane text on his iPhone will serve as a stark reminder to drivers.
His final text cut off in mid-sentence, because he drifted into oncoming traffic before he could send it.
The University of Northern Colorado student jerked the steering wheel and went off the road, rolling his car.
The photo, published Wednesday in The Greeley Tribune, shows Heit was responding to a friend by typing 'Sounds good my man, seeya soon, ill tw' before he crashed.
Witnesses told police that Heit appeared to have his head down when he began drifting into the oncoming lane in the outskirts of Greeley, where the University of Northern Colorado is located.
According to police, an oncoming driver slowed and moved over just before Heit looked up and jerked the steering wheel.
'Unfortunately, when we think to ourselves, ‘I’ll just do it this one time,’ we are fooling ourselves,' police chief Jerry Garner said.
'This ‘one time’ may be the only time. The Heits are sharing their tragedy and loss, in hope that through Alex’s story, others may realize and recognize just how dangerous texting and driving is. If this tragic, senseless accident can be a learning experience for others, perhaps others will be saved.'
Police say Heit, a Colorado native who loved hiking and snowboarding, had a spotless driving record and wasn't speeding.

In a statement released through police, Heit's mother said she doesn't want anyone else to lose someone to texting while driving.
'I can’t bear the thought of anyone else having to go through something like this,' Sharon Heit said.
'In a split second you could ruin your future, injure or kill others, and tear a hole in the heart of everyone who loves you.'

Kim Kardashian Getting Fat To Get More Endorsement Deals?!?

Kim Kardashian has been accused of packing on the pregnancy pounds to fatten up her diet endorsement deal.
The reality TV star and successful businesswoman is due to give birth to her first child with rapper boyfriend Kanye West in July.
Reports suggest the 32-year-old star is purposely consuming more calories than necessary.
Apparently she is doing this to be paid a bigger bonus from a potential weight loss endorsement deal.
“I wouldn’t put it past her to blow up just so her weight loss is more dramatic,” a source revealed to In Touch magazine.
“The way diet company deals are structured, bonuses are often built in for losing more weight in a shorter period of time.”
Kim has been spotted eating in public on many occasions since announcing her baby news.
She has been criticized for her quickly ballooning figure much like singer-turned-fashion designer Jessica Simpson during her first pregnancy.
Jessica was closely watched as she signed a US$4 million Weight Watchers deal before giving birth to daughter Maxwell in 2012.
“She knows what she’s doing by showing off her heavier figure and stuffing her face in public,” another insider commented about Kim.
“The more she looks heavy and out of control with her eating, the more she will be worth. Everything Kim does is on purpose.”
Apparently Kim’s mother and manager Kris Jenner also benefits from her expanding frame.
While Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig have both denied plans to make her a spokeswoman, Dianna Antlocer, Head of Marketing at the Dukan Diet plan, admitted, “We would definitely work with her.”
“[Kris] would get a percentage of any deal, so she’s pushing Kim hard to start signing contracts – baby shower photos, baby-bump pics, weight loss,” a friend said.

Teens Return $81,500 Left By Elderly Passenger In Train

Two Norwegian teens returned 467,200 kroner ($81,500) they found left on a train by an elderly passenger, Norwegian media reported Thursday.
The pair found the treasure Wednesday in a bag left on the seat of a train running between Oslo and a small town in southeastern Norway.
"When I opened the bag, the first thing I saw were these wads and wads of bills," one of the teens, identified as 16-year-old Bendik, said.
"My first thought was to call the police," he said.
After looking in the bag more closely, the good samaritans found the passport of its owner, a man in his 70s who was expected to pick up his money from the police on Thursday.
Police said they did not suspect any foul play behind the man’s huge quantity of cash, and said they did not know if the two teenagers had been rewarded for their honesty.

Man Impregnates Two Daughters, Attempts Raping Third

A 58-year-old man from Agbura community, Yenagoa Local Government, Bayelsa State was on Thursday arrested by the police for allegedly impregnating his two daughters.
The suspect, whose name was not disclosed, was also said to have attempted to rape his third daughter.
Our correspondent gathered that the arrest was initiated by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Affairs, Mrs. Pulu Zifawei.
The matter reportedly got to the office of the special adviser after the suspect made several attempts to rape his younger daughter.
The 14-year-old daughter, a student of the Community Secondary School, Agbura, was said to have reported the sexual harassment by her father to the school counsellor during a guardian and counselling session.
The school counsellor, who is also the victim’s class teacher, reported the case to the Ministry of Women Affairs which alerted the police.
The suspect was arrested and detained at the Azikoro Police Station.
A community source, Rowland Eview, told our correspondent that investigations by the police revealed that the suspect had already impregnated two of his daughters.
One of the daughters, 23, was said to have conceived twice for the father but mysteriously lost the babies at birth.
The second pregnant daughter was said to have relocated from the community out of shame.
The 21-year-old son of the suspect, who declined to mention his name, said he became aware of his father’s shameful acts at the age of 12.
“Our mother had reported the matter to the members of the family. On that day, our father nearly beat my mother to death. Each time the issue came up, my father would beat my mother,” he said.
He said the father had also inflicted machete cuts on him and his elder brother for daring to challenge his actions.
A senior police officer at the Azikoro Police Station confirmed to our correspondent that the suspect was in detention but said the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Alex Akhigbe, must be contacted for further details.
But Akhigbe told our correspondent that he was in a meeting.
