Photos: The Audacious Wives Of Nigerian Pastors

According to Tunde Opetomi, a resident of Lagos and churchgoer, “beautiful women can be a reward from the Lord. Men like Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were married to beauties and Sarah was still being chased by other men even in her old age. Can you beat that?”
With such beauty and in most cases brawn, pastors’ wives, often referred to as “mummy” by church members, have become celebrities. Here are the profiles of some of the wave-making pastors’ wives:
helen_1_[1]
HELEN ORITSEJAFOR: She is the delectable wife of the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and General Overseer of the Word of Life Bible Church, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor. She is also the President-General of the Daughters of Sarah Fellowship and Chief Host of “Family tips” on the Daughters of Sarah Kitchen Corner TV programme and “Mama Helen and You”, a regular talk show on ABN Africa.
While supporting her husband in the propagation of the message of the Christian faith, this woman, known for her gorgeous dressing and lifestyle, also runs the Eagle Flight Micro Finance Bank in Warri, Delta state. The mother of three, who got married to the CAN President after the death of his first wife, Stella, once told an interviewer that she could take the bullet for her husband.
ANITA OYAKHILOME: With a skin colour that looks very attractive, this mother of two is nothing but flashy. She is the wife of popular televangelist, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome of the Believers Love World also known as Christ Embassy. Pastor Anita is the Director of the Christ Embassy’s International Office and head of the church branch in the United Kingdom.
Anita, an author of Christian books, also co-publishes Rhapsody of Realities with her husband. A website described her as dealing only in very expensive fashion materials that add to her attractiveness just like her flamboyant husband.

NIKE ADEYEMI: The wife of Pastor Sam Adeyemi of DayStar Christian Centre, Oregun, Lagos and mother of three, has grown into a very successful preacher through her support for her husband’s ministry. She dresses simply but creates that attractive ambience whenever she steps out.
The soft-spoken graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife where she studied Architecture is in her mid-40s and co-heads the church that boasts of thousands of youths currently. Currently, she oversees some specialised programmes centred on women and their challenges in life. Born to the family of Professor Gabriel and Princess Aderonke Ogunmola in Ibadan, Oyo state, Pastor Nike is the founder of the Real Woman Foundation.

EVELYN JOSHUA: She is very appealing, yet would hardly portray herself as the wife of one of the most respected prophets in Nigeria and head of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, Prophet TB Joshua. Like her husband, she is very humble, easy-going, ever-smiling but would never be seen to exude that power which many thinks she has.
However, church members say this woman, who is not a publicity freak, remains a fantastic counsellor who would always show her love for the prophet at every given opportunity.
Though her husband is considered one of the richest clerics in Africa, her mature dress sense portrays a woman who is never bothered about the expensive things of life. This may be a major reason she prefers to remain in the shadows supporting her husband whom she says she is lucky to get married to.
photo
BLESSING AGBOLI: She is a nurse by training and the beautiful wife of the General Overseer of Victorious Army Ministries, Rev. Joseph Agboli. Mostly referred to as Mama Blessing, the Akumaji, Delta state-born woman plays a prominent role in the church as a co-pastor.
However, Mama Blessing’s love for jewelry and other such flashy fashion items cannot be rivalled. It is believed that in Nigeria, she is one of the best dressed pastors’ wives.
photo
IFEANYI ADEFARASIN: A mother of three children, Ifeanyi, the wife of Pastor Paul Adefarasin of the House On The Rock could be seen as one who believes in dressing to earn respect. With an enviable shape, good skin and a Range Rover with customised number plate, this woman is a lover of fashion and has good dress sense.
photo
IBIDUN IGHODALO: The coming together of Ibidun, a celebrity and one-time winner of the Miss Lux contest, and Pastor Itua Ighodalo actually got the man sacked as a pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Christ’s Church Parish, Gbagada, Lagos. Unperturbed, Pastor Ighodalo, a chartered accountant, went ahead and married this adorable woman and owner of Elizabeth R, an event planning outfit which has top Nigerians as its clients.
Ibidun also has eyes for fashion and could never be found wanting in that regard.
photo
FUNKE FELIX-ADEJUMO: A mother of four, Funke Adejumo is the wife of Bishop Felix Adejumo of the Agape Christian Ministries. She also assists her husband as a pastor in the church focusing more on the female gender. She is the owner of the Grace Orphanage and Children’s Hospital which she established with three children in 2003. Presently, the orphanage has 27 children and 17 full-time staff.
She also handles other programmes of the church including the Widow’s Grace Ministry, Grace Old People’s Home, and the Ladies’ School of Finishing Touches. Always moderately dressed, her beauty radiates.
photo
BUKOLA OLADIYUN: This pretty but simple wife of the founder of Christ Living Spring Apostolic Church, Pastor Wole Oladiyun, is also the proprietress of J-Nissi Children School, Ogba and Director of Family Life in the church.
This mother of four is also rarely a public figure but is believed to be a major force behind her husband’s success. She is always simply dressed preferring moderate but classy clothes.
photo
ROSEMARY ODUKOYA: The head of the Fountain of Life, Pastor Taiwo Odukoya, got married to this South African beauty, formerly known as Rosemary Simangele Zulu, after the death of his wife, Bimbo Odukoya, in a plane crash.
The former United Kigdom-based music director has continued to maintain a low profile since getting married to the popular pastor. However, the slim woman does not joke with her hair. According to those who know her, she would do anything to keep the long hair radiant.
photo
PASTOR NKOYO RAPU: She is a lawyer, who has assisted her husband, Dr. Tony Rapu, a Senior Pastor and head over the multi-faceted group of ministries comprising This Present House, God Bless Nigeria, The Underground Church and The Waterbrook.
The mother of three focuses on issues concerning women and children as a member, Board of Trustees of Freedom Foundation which her husband heads as the chairman.
photo
BISHOP LOVE SAM-AMAGA: The mother of five from Kogi state has authored several religious books as well as mentored several bachelors and spinsters.
Since 1980, she has managed children evangelism and established Children Bible Club.
With her husband, Dr. Sam Amaga, she has managed the Foundation Faith Church Worldwide and has been involved in various foreign missions and in the establishment of churches worldwide.

Female Suicide Bomber Kills 4 In Pakistan

In a strange twist to terrorism, a female suicide bomber blew herself up outside a hospital in a lawless tribal area of northwest Pakistan on Saturday, killing at least four people and wounding four others, officials said.
The attack took place in Khar, the main town of Bajaur tribal district bordering Afghanistan where the military has carried out several offensives against Al Qaeda-linked Taliban militants.
“At least four people were killed and four others were wounded in the blast outside the main gate of the hospital,” Mohammad Riaz, chief doctor at the government hospital, told AFP.
Local administration official Abdul Haseeb confirmed there were casualties, and that it was a female suicide bomber.
“It was a female suicide bomber, about 18-20 years old, we have found her legs and head,” he said.
The dead included a security personnel, a hospital worker and two civilians, he added.
Pakistan has lost more than 3,000 soldiers in the fight against homegrown insurgents but has resisted US pressure to expedite action in eliminating havens used by those fighting the Americans in Afghanistan.

Boko Haram: Committee Will Unmask The Sect- Sheikh Lemu

Sheikh Ahmad Lemu has expressed optimism that the Presidential committee on the proposed amnesty for the dreaded Boko Haram sect set up on Thursday by President Goodluck Jonathan would unveil the membership of the sect.
Speaking in an interview with Channels Television monitored in Minna, the respected Islamic cleric said that the lack of confidence in pervious government moves and fear of possible arrest and pesecution may have informed the leaders and members of the group going to hidden.
He however expressed hope that the insurgence being experienced in some northern states would soon come to an end, as committee intends to unveil the group and restore peace back to the region.
According to the Cleric, the setting up of the committee would help to enliven mutual trust between the government and the sect, stressing that the government action has created platform for sincere and geniune dialogue with the sect.
Lemu argued that dialogue and not force remains the only way out of the security challenges in the northern part. Faulting the opposition of the leadership of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to federal government move to grant amnesty to members of Boko Haram, Lemu said government’s olive branch to the dreaded sect was the best, insisting that the use of brute force will be counter productive.
”If amnesty was granted the Niger Delta militants in the South South, why not to Boko Haram in the north. The two groups committed same offence of killing and destruction. I think federal government amnesty plan for members of the sect was a right thing.
”The leadership of CAN is in the south and cannot appreciate what we are facing in the north but every Christians here in the north appreciate government gesture because we need peace here and there is no price too much to pay for it,” he stated.
On the withdrawal of Comrade Sani Shehu and Alhaji Ahmed Datti from the committee, Lemu said he was ever ready to serve the country in any capacity that would bring peace, unity and progress to the country. Describing his appointment as a call to service, the former Grand Khadi of Niger State said President Jonathan need not consult with him before appointing him for any national service.
Hear him, ”I cannot reject to serve because President did not consult me before appointing me to serve. President Jonathan is the Allah’s chosen leader for this country now. I know it is Allah that appoints leaders, so I have no cause to reject or refuse to serve when called.” The religious leader who headed a Presidential committee that probe the post-2011 election violence however expressed disappointment that the recommendations of his committee have not being implemented.

Solar Impulse, Sun-Powered Plane, Completes Test Flight Above San Francisco Bay Area

A solar-powered plane that has wowed aviation fans in Europe took to the skies Friday over the San Francisco Bay area in a successful test flight.
Considered the world’s most advanced sun-powered plane, the Solar Impulse took off from Moffett Field in Mountain View at first light for a two-hour practice run in advance of a planned multi-city, cross-country tour.
“That’s a mythical step in aviation,” André Borschberg, one of the plane’s pilots and creators, said about flying cross-country. “We are something like between 1915 and 1920, compared to traditional aviation, when pioneers tried these non-stop flights.”
He said a flight around the world could occur in two years.
The Solar Impulse is powered by about 12,000 photovoltaic cells that cover massive wings and charge its batteries, allowing it to fly day and night without jet fuel. It has the wing span of a commercial airplane but the weight of the average family car, making it vulnerable to bad weather.
Its creators say the Solar Impulse is designed to showcase the potential of solar power and will never replace fuel-powered commercial flights. The delicate, single-seat plane cruises around 40 mph and can’t fly through clouds.
Borschberg and Bertrand Piccard, Solar Impulse co-founder and chairman, said the plane should be ready for the cross-country journey on May 1, depending on the weather.
“We like nice weather. We like sunny days,” Borschberg said.
Stops are planned in Phoenix, Dallas, Washington, D.C., and New York. Each flight leg will take 20 to 25 hours, with 10-day stops in each city.
Between Dallas and Washington, the plane will also stop at one of three other cities – Atlanta, Nashville or St. Louis.
Borschberg said the plane’s creators are close to being able to launch the non-stop flights needed to go around the world.
Using solar power, “we are close to the notion of perpetual flight,” he said.

Kogi 'Cult Clash': Poly Lecturer Stabbed to Death

Suspected cult members at the Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, Friday night stabbed a lecturer to death during a crisis of supremacy that ensued between two warring cult groups. The victim, Mr. Anthony Abimaje, a senior lecturer in the Department of Entrepreneur and Research, was said stabbed in the abdomen due to his hard stance on examination malpractices in the school.
An eyewitness account disclosed that the late lecturer came into the campus at about 10pm to pick his wife, who was running a makeshift shop in the campus when one of the cult members identified him as a hardliner against exam malpractices and suddenly bounced on him, stabbing him in the process. Another account said the lecturer came to the scene of the riot as a peacemaker to separate the fight between two rival groups, when he was stabbed in the stomach by one of the rampaging students.
The man described as a born-again lecturer was said to have died on his way to the hospital before medical help could reach him.
The polytechnic is said to be notorious for cult-related activities and tribal crises that are tearing the institution apart. Only a forthnight ago, a lecturer was reportedly stripped naked after being beaten black and blue by a female student and her boyfriend for his refusal to 'cooperate' during examination period.
In the past, the institution had been closed down severally by the government due to ethnic polarization and cult-related issues But the appointment of the current Rector, Prof Mathew Ajibero few years ago seemed to have greatly reduced the crises. When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the polytechnic, Mr. Tijani Yakubu, described the incident as unfortunate and said that the institution had been closed down indefinitely by the authorities of the polytechnic.

Italy Re-Elects 87-Year-Old Napolitano As President

Italy has re-elected President Giorgio Napolitano for a second term following a last-minute deal between party chiefs to break the deadlock after five previous ballots failed to produce a winner.
With the support of all major parties, except the 5-Star Movement, Napolitano easily won the vote on Saturday, which required more than 50 percent of votes in a special sitting of both houses of parliament.
Napolitano, who at 87 is already among the world’s oldest heads of state, may not serve the full seven-year term and could resign after the political stalemate that has lasted since an inconclusive February election is solved.
Earlier on Saturday, Napolitano had put forward his candidacy for another term as Italy’s president after the main political parties appealed for him to help resolve a deepening crisis.
“I consider it necessary to offer my availability,” Napolitano said in a statement after no candidate won a majority of votes in the joint session of parliament.
Stefano Rodota, an academic and human rights advocate who is the candidate for former comic Beppe Grillo’s left-wing Five Star Movement, received the highest number of votes with 210 of the required 504 ballots.
The deepening crisis comes after politicians from the main parties said they would either not participate or would cast empty ballots earlier on Saturday, after Pier Luigi Bersani, the leader of the Democratic Party (PD) announced he would resign once a new head of state was elected.
The PD has been in turmoil after both candidates proposed by Bersani, former trade unionist Franco Marini and then former European Commission president Romano Prodi failed to be elected in voting on Thursday and Friday.
The political impasse caused by February’s inconclusive general election has stoked concern about stability in the recession-hit country, the eurozone’s third largest economy.
The presidency, an office elected by parliamentarians and regional representatives, is a largely ceremonial position, but is important at times of political instability like the present, when the president plays a major role in forming a government.
Napolitano had been unable to find a way out of the crisis with his powers restricted at the end of his mandate.
In the final months of his mandate Napolitano was constitutionally prevented from dissolving parliament and calling fresh elections.

Protests Spread In India Over Molestation Of Five-Year-Old

Street protests erupted in New Delhi on Saturday after the barbaric molestation of a five-year-old girl who doctors said would need major reconstructive surgery as she had been badly damaged.
Police took the accused into custody from his in-law’s house in Bihar in an early morning raid.
Public anger spilled onto the streets as hundreds of protesters held demonstrations in many parts of Delhi, being increasingly described as the “r*pe capital” of India, demanding the death of Manoj Kumar, 22, the young man who allegedly kidnapped, starved and brutally tortured the girl for two days in an area in east Delhi.
Students, activists and members of the Aam Admi Party (AAP) and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student’s wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, laid siege outside the Police Headquarters at ITO in the heart of the capital from the early morning, shouting slogans and waving banners
The crowd demanded the resignation of Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar to take moral responsibility for police callousness. Many protesters tried to break the barricades and enter the Police Headquarters, but were pushed back by police, mindful of Friday’s incident in which a senior police officer was suspended for slapping a protesting schoolgirl — an incident that attracted widespread condemnation.
The restive crowd soon moved to the hospital where the girl is undergoing treatment.
Another crowd of protesters moved to union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde’s house in Krishna Menon Marg in central Delhi and raised slogans against the deteriorating law and order situation in the capital, which has seen 393 molestation cases in just three months as compared to 152 in the same period last year.
Dozens also protested outside Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s 10 Janpath residence.
Gandhi condemned the r*pe, saying “action and not words are required to check incidents like this heinous r*pe.”
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushma Swaraj went a step further — demanding death penalty.
“They reflect a mental sickness which has crept in society… a strong law is not sufficient, they need a shock treatment… They should be hanged to send a strong message to other people,” she told reporters.
President Pranab Mukherjee also expressed deep shock and anguish and said “urgent steps must be taken to bring the perpetrators to immediate justice.
“As a society, we must introspect at the erosion of values and our repeated failure to ensure the security of our women and children,” he added.
Doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) said the girl’s condition had stabilised and she was talking.
“She has suffered injuries to her private parts and will need to undergo corrective and reconstruction surgery,” AIIMS medical superintendent D.K. Sharma told reporters.
“Her condition is stable and she is out of danger. She has been put on intravenous fluids and antibiotics,” he added.
“She has been conscious, alert and all her parameters are normal. She is talking,” he said.
The girl who was abducted on April 15 and kept hostage for 2 days without food and water was moved to AIIMS on Friday from an east Delhi hospital where doctors had said they had never seen such a brutal attack after they removed a bottle and pieces of candle from her private parts.

Boston Bomb: “My Nephews Put A Shame On The Entire Chechen Ethnicity” – Uncle Of Boston Terrorist Su

In an impassioned 10-minute interview with reporters outside his Maryland home, Ruslan Tsarni said his nephews “put a shame on the entire Chechen ethnicity” and expressed a desire to apologize personally to the victims.
“I’m ready just to bend in front of them, to kneel in front of them seeking their forgiveness,” a visibly moved Tsarni said, stressing that his own family has had “nothing to do” with his brother’s family for several years.
Tsarni’s nephews Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev are the prime suspects in Monday’s bombings at the finish of the Boston Marathon.
Tamerlan died after a shootout with law enforcement, and the city is on virtual lockdown amid a massive manhunt for the younger brother.
“Dzhokhar, if you’re alive, turn yourself in and ask for forgiveness,” Tsarni said, adding he was “shocked” to see FBI images of his nephews on television and the Internet.
Tsarni said he is legally in the United States and that his family are ethnic Chechen Muslims.
But he said the two suspects had never been to Chechnya, a mainly Muslim region in southern Russia, and were unlikely to be involved in the unrest of recent years there.
“If that happened, most likely somebody radicalized them.”
Tsarni said his nephews arrived in the United States from Kyrgyzstan, in Central Asia, in 2003 and were given asylum, but he called them “losers” who could not integrate into American life.
Asked why they might have turned to terrorism, he said: “Hatred to those who were able to settle themselves.
“These are the only reasons I can imagine. Anything else, anything else to do with religion, with Islam, it’s a fraud,” he said. “It’s a fake.”
Tsarni, dressed in a light blue polo shirt and standing outside a brick home in Montgomery County, Maryland, sounded anguished about what had transpired.
“Of course we’re ashamed,” he said. “I respect this country. I love this country.”
“This country, which gives chance to everybody else to be treated as a human being… that’s what I feel about this country.”

Relationships: Things Women Do That Scare Men Away

1. Being too controlling
Men don’t like to be controlled. Texting a guy thrice a day to ask where he is, demanding access to his email, and asking that you exchange Facebook passwords is not only annoying, but it suggests that you don’t trust him to behave.  Don’t follow him about and demand to know his whereabouts at all times.
2. Acting as if he’s on trial
You’re in a relationship to get to know him, not evaluate whether or not he meets your standards. Questions like “how many children do you want?” and “what is your five-year plan?” are important, but you will come off as an interrogator if you do it all the time.  It might be necessary to know if his life plans are compatible with yours but it’s wise to keep the discussions light until your relationship matures.
3. Showing a strong dislike of children
Women are supposed to be nurturers, so if you show a strong dislike towards children, you will seem abnormal. Don’t shout at parents when their baby is crying or be mean to little children. No matter how nice you are to the guy, he’s going to think that you’re secretly evil if you mistreat the vulnerable.
4. Being a daddy’s girl
Just like women don’t like a mummy’s boy, men are also afraid to be involved with a daddy’s girl. There’s nothing wrong with being close to your parents but if they exercise too much control over your life and your choices, it could be discouraging to your partner.
5. Telling your friends EVERYTHING!!!
Guys definitely get scared when they realise that your girlfriends know everything about your relationship. No matter how close you are to your girlfriends, realise that the guy’s going to feel a little violated knowing that his relationship with you is a daily topic.
6. Being close to an ex
No guy would like the idea of you remaining close friends with your ex. In addition to getting scared that you’ll cheat on him, your new man might worry that you’ll never really open up to him since you already have a figure in your life who understands you intimately.
7. Being bitter about past relationships
On the other hand, being too bitter about your exes will make you look like you’re bent on revenge and that you will take out all your bitterness on him.
8. Trying to change him
No guy wants to feel like he’s your personal project. If you think he needs to improve, you need to encourage him, not try to change him.

156 Dead, 6,000 Injured As Earthquake Hits China (PHOTOS)

More than 150 people were killed and 5,700 injured when a strong earthquake hit a mountainous part of southwestern China on Saturday, destroying thousands of homes and triggering landslides.

The shallow earthquake struck Sichuan province on the edge of the Tibetan Plateau just after 8:00 am, prompting a major rescue operation in the same area where 87,000 people were reported dead or missing in a massive quake in 2008.

Nearly 13 hours after the quake hit Lushan county in the city of Ya’an, the death toll stood at 157, the official Xinhua news agency reported, citing the Ministry of Civil Affairs which said more than 5,700 had been injured.

At least 10,000 homes were destroyed, the Sichuan government said as rescue workers searched through the rubble for survivors.

Local seismologists registered the quake at magnitude 7.0 while the US Geological Survey gave it as 6.6. More than 260 aftershocks followed, the People’s Daily said on its website.

The shaking was felt in the provincial capital Chengdu, which lies to the east, and even in the megacity of Chongqing several hundred kilometres (miles) away.

Panicked residents fled into the streets, some of them still in their slippers and pyjamas.

“Members of my family were woken up. They were lying in bed when the strong shaking began and the wardrobes began shaking strongly,” said a 43-year-old Chongqing resident surnamed Wang. “We grabbed our clothes and ran outside.”

About 6,000 soldiers and police were heading to the area to help rescue work and five drones were sent to capture aerial images, Xinhua said.

Some teams had to contend with roads blocked by debris, state television CCTV reported, while one military vehicle carrying 17 troops plummeted over a cliff, killing one soldier and injuring seven others, Xinhua said.

“There are mountains on all sides, it is very easy to trigger mudslides and very dangerous,” one user wrote on Sina Weibo microblog site.

The disaster evoked comparisons to the 2008 Sichuan quake, the country’s worst in decades, and President Xi Jinping ordered all out efforts to minimise casualties, Xinhua said.

Premier Li Keqiang arrived in Sichuan in the afternoon and took a helicopter to the quake zone.
The first 24 hours was “the golden time for saving lives”, he was quoted as saying.

“Life is the most important thing and the top priority is saving lives,” he said.

Amid the rescue efforts, a 30-year-old pregnant woman surnamed Zhao was pulled out of the rubble along with a young child and sent to hospital for treatment, the People’s Daily said on its Weibo account.

“We have pulled 13 people out of the rubble, including 10 alive,” local official Luo Bin told Xinhua in the village of Gucheng.

“We are not sure whether more people are buried underneath but the search will go on,” he said.
CCTV showed one survivor receiving stitches for his head on the street, and another elderly man being pushed in a wheelbarrow padded with blankets past a row of tents set up outside a Lushan hospital.

A local TV journalist due to get married on Saturday turned up instead for work and a photograph of her holding a microphone in her wedding dress with bright makeup and a corsage was widely circulated online.
Meanwhile Ya’an residents were offering to donate badly needed blood, the People’s Daily said.

CA Man Shoots Stripper, Then Kills Himself Inside Strip Club

A man walked into a Rialto, California strip club and shot an exotic dancer before killing himself, reports KNBC.com.
The incident took place at the Spearmint Rhino strip club. The man, who was in his 40′s, asked the dancer, in her 20′s, to go into a private room with him and was rejected. That’s when he pulled out the gun, shot the dancer in the face before turning the gun on himself.
According to a friend of the dancer, the man had been a fan of hers, going to the strip club daily to watch her perform. CBS Local reports that he allegedly brought up all the money had spent on her in the last year before pulling out the gun and shooting her in the face.
There were reportedly approximately 20 people in the room when the shooting occurred. According to police, the Spearmint Rhino does not check for weapons before entry.

See Fashionable Dress Created Out Of Thousands Of Colorful Rubber Bands

Bulgarian-born designer Margarita Mileva spends around 90 hours painstakingly knotting rubber bands together to create wearable dresses. Her latest creation has about 18,500 rubber bands.
Back in 2011, she created a stunning pastel dress out of 14,235 pieces of rubbery office supplies. She beat that record by knotting together a 10-kilogram garment from orange and black rubber bands, inspired by the spirit of Polynesia and the tattoos of the Maori. It took 150 hours to complete, and comes with matching rubber band shoes. “I always had an eye for jewelry and love to design clothes, knit and make collages,” 49-year-old Mileva says. “So when I started making jewelry from reusing paperclips, punched business cards and rubber bands, it didn’t come as a surprise to anyone. Rubber band dresses were the next step – I am trying to create unique pieces that I would like to be seen as conversation openers.”
Although she admits her fashionable rubber band dresses are pretty heavy and she has never worn them herself, Margarita says the models really like them. She does wear many of the rubber band accessories she designs, and likes to see people’s reactions. If you’re looking for a unique wedding dress to surprise everyone on your big day, the New-York-based designer says she is open to taking custom orders. She also sells rubber band accessories through her Etsy shop.
