Man Who Kills Only Pregnant Women Arrested.. Vows To Kill More Women

The killer of a pregnant bride the day before her wedding warned that he will continue to kill pregnant women every week, according to police.

The demon that killed a pregnant Brooklyn, New York, bride-to-be left a note under her dead body promising that more expectant mothers will die unless "The DC sniper" is released from jail, police sources told a local New York newspaper.

The single-page, computer-printed message was discovered Saturday after police were called to the blood splattered basement apartment in Flatbush of Vindalee Smith, 38, after she had been stabbed and her throat cut.

"The note was under her body. They found it when she was turned around," a police source said. Written in large black block letters, the note warned that a pregnant woman a week was going to die unless Washington, DC, sniper Lee Boyd Malvo was released from prison, a source familiar with the investigation said.

But detectives are skeptical and believe that this is a ploy by the murderer to throw them off the track, but they do not rule out anything, the source said. Police believe, Smith, who was a day away from getting married and two weeks before giving birth, knew her murderer. There were no signs of forced entry and no weapon was found.

Malvo, 27, is serving a life sentence for six of the 10 Beltway sniper attacks that terrorized the country in 2002. He and his master murderer, John Allen Muhammad, had planned to kill six white people a day for a month. Muhammad was executed in November 2009.

Tobacco Smoking Leads To Low Spêrm Count, Weak Erêction”

Dr Joseph Natsah of General Hospital Kachia in Kaduna State, has advised youths against tobacco smoking, saying it leads to impotence.

Natsah said in an interview on Tuesday in Kaduna that tobacco smoking results in low spêrm count, weak erêction and impotence.He warned girls involved in smoking to desist from the habit as it would also prevent them from either conceiving or having still birth.

Natsah said tobacco smoke generally has adverse effect on every organ of the body, including the immune system.

The medical practitioner listed some of the conditions generated by smoking to include coronary and heart disease,  as well as breathlessness and influenza,He also said that smoking causes cancer, such as leukaemia, cancer of the bladder, throat and stomach.

Also, a laboratory technician, Miss Mercy Onu said smoking was contributing to higher percentage of deformed spêrms and impotency.She also said it contributed to “painful ulcers along the digestive tract and build up fatty deposit on the artery walls”, thereby leading to low blood flow and heart attack.

A police sergeant, Dalhatu Konkiyel, who said he was a “retired chronic smoker”, said that he experienced various health challenges while smoking.Some of the challenges, he said, were poor vision, high blood pressure, common cold , tooth decay, gum disease, sleeping and blood circulation problems.

He advised the youths not to indulge in the habit, to avoid early death and psychological trauma. Konkiyel called on the Federal Government to ban the manufacture, distribution, sale and smoking of tobacco in the country.

D’Banj, Durela Settle Differences

There are media reports that the Kokomaster, D’Banj and King of the Zanga, Durela have settled their differences.

The two artistes have had to deal with cold relationship between them for a long time. They were said to have before now kept each other at arm’s length.

But as things are going now, they may have let the past behind them.

As claimed by some reports, D’Banj has signed Durela under his DB Records. But what Nigeriafilms.com can confirm is that the duo did a duet in D’Banj’s DKM album, which is yet to be released.

2000 soldiers, fighter jets deployed to Borno state

About 2,000 security operatives and military hardware, including fighter jets have been deployed to Maiduguri ahead of yesterday’s declaration of State of Emergency.

 

In neighboring Yobe State, it is not clear how many soldiers were deployed but residents said shortly after the declaration of state of emergency, stop and search operations have been intensified in the state capital while movement have been restricted in other places.

 

Residents said the deployment of the federal troops, including the army, navy, air force and operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) began at the weekend.

 

“We started sensing danger on Saturday when we saw military trucks conveying soldiers to the Joint Task Force (JTF) headquarters along Pompomari area,” Usman Jika, a resident of Maiduguri said.

“By Sunday morning, so many roadblocks have sprung up in the state capital and there was noticeable cordon and search of houses by new faces (soldiers),” he said.

 

A resident of Kumshe, one of the red spots in Maiduguri said his neighbour was beaten to pulp on Sunday when soldiers besieged the areas and forced all the people out of their houses.

“All the soldiers that came to the neighborhood appeared new in the town, some of them said it is now time for ‘fire for fire” he said.

 

Another resident said he saw military aircrafts landing at the Maiduguri International Airport and the air strip at the Air Force base in the state capital.

 

“A lot of fighting equipment have been deployed to Maiduguri,” Hajja Maimuna, a resident of Gomari, whose house is close to the Air Force base said.

 

“We are really terrified because the military operatives coming to Maiduguri in the last two days far outnumbered those that came during the previous emergency rule,” she said.

“Even though the state governor has not been removed, which is good, the truth is that Maiduguri is now a garrison town, full of angry soldiers who are ready to kill at the slightest provocation. The deployment will definitely hamper social and economic life of the people,” she said.

Woman bites police officer's face at traffic stop

A police officer in New York had no idea what he is getting himself into when he stopped a woman in Staten Island.

The Staten Island woman bit the face of a police officer after being arrested for driving without a license, authorities said.

The bloody encounter occurred after Amanda Diaz, 27, was arrested near Mosel Avenue and Clove Road in Grasmere, where police saw her driving erratically at about 5 pm prosecutors said. Police arrested Diaz, of West Brighton, after she was driving her 1998 Nissan Maxima around 5 mph and swerved into oncoming traffic, according to court documents.

The officers found that her license had been revoked for failure to pay at least three previous violations, records show. Diaz went crazy and started waving her arms as she cursed the officers when they tried to handcuff her, the court papers show.

“Once inside the police car, Diaz bit one of the officers in the face, causing the skin to rip off,” according to court documents. The officer was treated at a nearby hospital and later released. 

Diaz was booked on a number of charges including assault, resisting arrest, reckless driving and driving without a license. She was released on $5,000 bail.

 

Nollywood To Spend GEJ’s N3b On Distribution

In a stakeholders meeting between the Nollywood and representatives of the Federal Government, distribution has been identified as the area that will gulp the most part of the N3billion largesse made available by President Goodluck Jonathan to the industry.

Convening at a town hall meeting which held recently on Saturday April 27, 2013 at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos, the presidential committee which comprised of the Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Minister of Tourism, Edem Duke, along with professionals from the finance, judiciary and education sectors agreed to liase with the various guilds in the industry on how best to invest this grant.

Lack of proper distribution network, scripting and poor funding were identified as the major factors militating against the growth of Nollywood.

It was however agreed that inadequate distribution network creates room for pirates to feast on the sweat of the film makers and so, a consensus among participants at the meeting was reached on the need to develop a strong distribution system and strengthening of expertise to deepen professionalism and expertise in the industry as key areas of focus in the usage of the fund.

Speaking to reporters after the closed door meeting, Okonjo-Iweala emphasized government’s new resolved efforts to support Nollywood in every way that it can. She said, the idea is to encourage the sustained growth of the industry and help them deal with capacity building, quality and to encourage them in general to up the game in the industry

‘We agreed that this money will go to support certain things. First, getting distribution right. Second, for capacity building in the industry. Third, encouraging creativity through reviewing and having a competition for scripts and production’, the Minister said.

In a telephone conversation, President of the Association of Movie Producers, Zik Zulu Okafor who was present at the meeting told NET reporters that, ‘Tackling the distribution network problem will definitely act as a chain reaction to solving several other problems in the industry’.

‘Piracy thrives under a poor distribution system and it is the same problem of piracy that we have been crying about for a long time. Creating and adopting a proper network system will go a long way in solving the issues’, said Ejike Asiegbu, a former President of the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria.

It is the belief of stakeholders that with a right distribution framework, enforced by government policies, the creative energy of the film industry would be unleashed.

The town hall event was the latest in a series of consultations by the government with stakeholders in the industry to get their input and ideas on the best ways to deploy the funds to maximise benefits for the industry.

At a dinner held on March 2, 2013 in Lagos in honour of the 20years anniversary of Nollywood, the President, Goodluck Jonathan had made a surprise promised of a N3billion intervention grant to the movie industry in what he had commissioned as ‘Project Nollywood’. Prior to this $3billion (N32 billion) for Nollywood, a previous intervention fund of about $200million for the creative industry announced by the President had been plagued by complaints of inaccessibility.

But the star herself is halfway across the world on her tour, performing in Dublin on Sunday night before jetting to Antwerp for her concert on Tuesday, instead of becoming embroiled in the New York censorship row.
